A spontaneously decorated barrier-gate protecting somebody's private property in the Haight. I have been observing the Haight on foot a lot lately, given these many bright warm afternoons when the impulse is strong to walk home after work and be out in the light. It's not a long walk really, only about 40 minutes. The best route leads downhill from the university across the Panhandle & over to Haight, then a long straight stretch down Haight before cutting through Dubose Park into the Castro and thence to the Mission. Most of the buildings along this route are a century old, with layers of editing laid on top of them. The embellishments are what I tend to notice.
