Monday afternoon Mabel Watson Payne and I went up to Huntington Park playground. We had about an hour before it started to get dark. The weather was cold and the park was empty, but Mabel went into action with gusto, deciding that she wanted to play on the big kid side. She showed me her own way of swinging on the big kid swings.
Occasionally in the middle of play Mabel will get distracted by her own thoughts and daydream for a little while. When she fell briefly into such a reverie I saw it as one of the increasingly rare chances for a close-up. When I think back, this child always did move non-stop, but still somehow she seems to move more non-stop now than before.
