I have not spent enough time to say that I have ever really learned one of the simplest functions on the DSLR that I have now been fiddling around with for the better part of a year – manual focusing. Out in the world, manual results have ranged between undetectable and hopeless. This has discouraged me from continuing to try it. But today in the fading afternoon light when it seemed too cold and wet to willingly venture outside, I recalled my plan of practicing with inanimate objects (and a tripod). This gave some satisfaction – plus a couple of promising ideas for further experiment – and I here do affirm an intention to spend more time in the New Year working with manual focus.
