Above, detail of silk machine-embroidery on a sheet of heavy rice paper purchased with my daughter's wondering participation at the Flax sale on Friday. The papers brought home from that sale have dominated my mental eye all weekend. The obvious guess would be that the one above was manufactured in Japan, but that would be only one among many plausible guesses. The two printed papers below, on the other hand, are exceptionally well-documented and definitely came from England
– there is a small line of printing in the corner of each one that says so (or implies as much). All the rest are likely to remain in the anonymity where we found them.
