I've sensed some backlash lately against old-fashioned Minimalism in painting and sculpture. Not that the movement even lasted very long, but it surely did at its peak generate a lot of intensely beautiful work. By now, that work is wholly "of another time" -- but I don't think the passage of time is taking away any of its integrity or relevance.
The images above represent work by
Florian Pumhösl recently exhibited at
Krobath Gallery, Vienna. Panes of glass set at slight angles inside big black frames. I was kind of thrilled to see this installation because it reads to me like a direct tribute to High Minimalism and a proof that good new work can still be done in that genre.
