Marble
Revisited the very wonderful Japanese screens exhibition at the San Francisco Asian Art Museum this afternoon, sadly aware that it closes next week. No pictures to document it, either – except the stylish poster above – since cameras are forbidden in those galleries.
Wandering to the upstairs loggia (with its skylights and marble walls) I got freshly interested in the architectural carving around the bases of the columns and pillars. What sure hands those old stonecutters must have had. Probably all the recent reading about Roman churches has opened my eyes – and in this part of the building I was free to take as many pictures as I wanted.
