Numerals painted on brown paper. My daughter saved these. They came to her wrapped around gifts from me on her 14th & 27th & 29th birthdays. Am not surprised to see how little the method changed over the years. Jasper Johns (below, early Pop, 1959) has a lot to answer for.
(Although in fact I could never make myself brave enough to use blue against yellow the way he does).
