Drake's Bay

Many small groupings of seagulls occupied the beach at Drake's Bay on Thursday afternoon. Gawky nervous juvenile seagulls were being watched over and perhaps educated by mature seagulls. These young were as big as the parents but with fluffy gray feathers all over themselves instead of sleek white ones. Wild seagulls living on the huge nature preserve of Point Reyes are much less tolerant of human presence than the urban-scavenger seagulls living a few miles away along the edges of San Francisco Bay

Near the visitor center (below) a recent high tide had left a sizable salt pool behind a small & no doubt temporary sand bar.
