ANDREA MELDOLLA, called SCHIAVONE (printmaker, painter/draughtsman; Italian; Male; c. 1510/15 - 1563)

Andrea Meldolla, called Andrea Schiavone, Painter and etcher from Zara. Active in Venice. Barsch (wrongly) separated Andrea Schiavone from Andrea Meldolla, considering them to have been two separate people. He attributed to Schiavone a series that are actually by Battista del Moro. Schiavone was intensely experimental in his approach, using drypoint and etching together and constantly reworking his plates. He printed on papers washed with different colours and sometimes added colour by hand to the printed impressions.
