Outer wall of Mission Dolores graveyard in San Francisco, with statue of Our Lady of Sorrows built into an adobe niche. Within hours of taking this photo I got a disconcertingly apt email out of the blue from a friend in Italy:
Yesterday was ferragosto – feast of the assumption
of the BVM. Do you have any idea where she might be?
The dark side of the moon? Somewhere on Venus
where the conditions are hospitable? Is she still in
the solar system? What did she breathe when she
left the atmosphere? So seriously, then, she must be
in an earthly heaven somewhere.
