These and many other equally delightful wood-engraved ornaments (all vaguely similar, like snowflakes, yet no two alike) serve as chapter endings throughout the six-volume Polybius that made such an impression on me a couple of weeks ago at the library in San Francisco where I work. Fragments from its endearing 1727 self have showed up several times already on this site, and those who enjoy them will be glad to learn that more are yet to come. MAPS will be seen at some point in the future, as well as DIAGRAMS. Two spicy prospects.
