November 1970 in the pages of Vogue. Lauren Hutton was the supermodel of the moment, photographed by Richard Avedon. Below she explains what lay behind her success with all-powerful editor, Diana Vreeland – "She must have been starting to see these few young girls, who were showing up, with very little make-up, and their hair right out of the shower, with T-shirts, no bras, and jeans and sneakers. I think she saw that I was one of these new things. I wasn't this swan, these European put-together '50s swans. I was sort of the new American idea."
