"Adam Pynacker (or Pijnacker) may have been a wine merchant, like his father, before he became a painter.  He spent three years in Italy 'to pursue his art after fine examples', according to Arnold Houbraken, but this stay is not documented.  If Pynacker did go to Italy, it must have been before 1649, when he is named as a witness for Adam Pick in a notary's deed in Delft; his name recurs frequently in documents in subsequent years.  . . .  Pynacker married the daughter of the painter Wybrand de Geest of Leeuwarden in Schiedam in 1658.  In 1661, or shortly thereafter, he moved to Amsterdam."

– Peter Schatborn, from the catalogue of a 2001 exhibition at the Rijksmuseum, published in English as Drawn to Warmth: 17th-century Dutch artists in Italy, translated by Lynne Richards
