Simultaneous with the Holy Family's flight into Egypt (as depicted above) there was occurring (back at home in Judea) the Massacre of the Holy Innocents (as depicted below). Seeking to eliminate the threat posed by the Christ Child (as reported by his prophets and astrologers), King Herod decreed the killing of all baby boys in the region, his soldiers promptly carrying out their orders (as soldiers all-but-invariably will).
