South Park

I was meeting my daughter at 5:00 at her work place near the new ball park. Of course as always I was early, so whiled away a few minutes in nearby South Park, taking mostly photos of trees in fog. This was one of the upscale neighborhoods of San Francisco before Nob Hill was invented. Through most of the 20th century it declined in prestige, but now is chic again.

In the bottom picture, through the trees, there is a view of the top of a newly built skyscraper called One Rincon Hill. It contains 709 colossally expensive condos, and is in fact about a mile away from South Park, situated near the water and right up against the Bay Bridge. Reports agree that the units are selling briskly, many for up-front cash, even in the present terrible economy. According to one piece I read, there were 50,000 new millionaires created in San Francisco over the past ten years, mostly young people working in the dot.com world.
