This is the view from the kitchen windows at Spencer Alley, a typical San Francisco view in humble neighborhoods like the Mission. These are the back porches and back stairs of a building whose residents all moved out several months ago to allow for renovations. Workers have redone the insides of the flats, and over the recent holiday weekend they got to the stage of applying fresh exterior paint. I speculate that this must be a postmodern color-scheme, intentionally unpleasant. Surely it is too awful to be accidental.
