Glazed Pot

Most of the East Bay gardening I did today was janitorial maintenance – sweeping up dead leave, restraining wild vines, yanking out exhausted annuals (cosmos, petunias, marigolds) and cutting back delphiniums and foxgloves that may come back again in the spring, with luck.

The big jade-colored pot pictured here with its medley of ornamental specimens is still pretty robust but a couple of its constituents were no longer thriving and needed to be quietly liquidated. Introducing fresh elements to replace the departed ones allowed some scope for a bold autumnal hand.
