Ballet in Print

In 1945 Alexey Brodovitch designed a book of his ballet photographs with text by Edwin Denby. From 1938 to 1958 Brodovitch was art director of Harper's Bazaar and became famous for the bold new graphic look he gave the magazine, but this was his only book. Original copies would appear now and then at astronomical prices in the rare book trade. Otherwise it was unavailable. Now Errata Editions is issuing a facsimile of Ballet, and it deserves to be snapped up.

Below, Brodovitch at work in his heyday, photographed by Henri Cartier-Bresson.

And photographed again by Richard Avedon in 1970, the year before his death.
