Flocks of grazing animals with mounted herders appear with noticeable frequency in paintings by Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione (1609-1664), whose engravings have occupied this space recently. Old Testament stories are certainly full of opportunities to represent sheep and goats and cows if a painter chooses to seek them out.
