The drawings in this group from the British Museum were all made by Parmigianino (Francesco Mazzola) during the first half of the 16th century. He died of a fever in 1540 at age 37. In the 17th century these sheets were owned by Sir Peter Lely (1618-1680), court painter to Charles II of England. Lely's emphatic monogram-stamp is plainly visible on each one in the lower right-hand corner.
