Heinrich Aldegrever (ca. 1501/02 - ca. 1555/61) – German printmaker – "Nothing is recorded of his training, but many of his figures reveal the influence of Antwerp artists of this period, as well as Dürer (whose monogram he imitated), Lucas van Leyden, and, for his ornament prints, the Italian engraver Zoan Andrea.  Between 1527 and 1555 Aldegrever produced nearly 300 engravings [as well as etchings and woodcuts]. Many were engraved in the finely detailed manner of the Nuremberg 'Little Masters' – the Beham brothers and Georg Pencz – some of whose work he copied; but Aldegrever's more mannered style can always be distinguished from their prints by his slim, attenuated figures and puckered, agitated drapery."
