"For the suite of eight hand-coloured etchings from which this print comes, Dine returned to the plates used for his "Eight sheets from an unidentified novel" of 1976.  Areas of tone were added to or erased from the plates using the die-grinder; the many alterations made to the faces resulted in changes to the identities of some of the characters.  Whereas in the first suite the prints were touched with watercolour, for the second Dine applied oil colours to the paper between double printings of the plate.  The off-register effect of these printings was exploited to suggest the changes and revisions of his drawings."
