Cargo Netting
Mabel Watson Payne watched Daddy climb to the top of the blue-and-red rope-web structure at the Chinatown playground on Friday afternoon. He told us it was meant to be a child-safe imitation of "cargo netting" as used on ships (a fact of which both grandfather and granddaughter were ignorant to the same complete degree). Mabel has been making short climbs of her own for a week or so, with heavy supervision.
Quite soon she will undoubtedly be scrambling up and down with no help at all. But at present she still seemed equally content to sit in the loop at the bottom, swinging gently back and forth.
