14 Valentines

This last batch of Valentines are the ones I made, but in fact they are more than half the work of Mabel, who guided my hand on every one. She tended to pluck a discarded scrap from the table or the floor, exclaiming, "this is awesome! use this!" – which is what I did, to the best of my ability.

Ballet Stickers

Mabel sent me a postcard with writing on one side and this sticker-picture on the other side.

I think it is beautiful in the extreme.

And festive. This upcoming weekend, Mabel and her parents will be guests at two birthday parties on the same day, the first party for a baby-friend who is turning 1 year old, the second party for a lady-relative who is turning 100 years old.

Sticker Trouble

After we got back home from the playground on Friday and after Daddy got back from his travels, Mabel recruited him to play doll stickers. She has precise ideas about where and how the doll stickers should be arranged, but does not always have the dexterity to make her wishes come true. When things go wrong, Daddy fixes them.

Weekly Mabel Polaroids

The weekly Mabel Polaroids march along, well into their third year. Usually the Polaroid of the week is taken on Saturday. That is part of this domestic tradition. 

Profile With Haircut

Late afternoon on Friday – sunny but chilly – with Mabel. We stayed inside, reading books and playing with stickers. She and Daddy had been out already in the morning to FLAX Art & Design – hence the stickers.

Phoebe Hearst Fountain

When we reached the Music Concourse in Golden Gate Park on Wednesday morning Mabel rushed ahead to admire the lion and serpent sculpture in the middle of Phoebe Hearst Fountain. It is one of her favorite pieces of public art.

At the entrance to the Academy of Sciences, two policemen on Real Horses were talking to some older children. Mabel petted both horses and learned their names – Buster and Rusty, I think (though Mabel might correct me). One of the policemen gave her a sticker.
