I was at the San Francisco Asian Art Museum this afternoon to see the formidable Ming show again. It closes in ten days, and the wondrous objects, mostly on loan from China, then move on to other fortunate US venues. But I was already pretty familiar with the Ming show, so went through it really only to revisit favorite pieces.
And then had time left to go upstairs to the permanent galleries and look at more Chinese art.

A painted wood representation of the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, made between 1100 and 1200 during China's Song Dynasty.
And a marble representation of the same Bodhisattva, namely Avalokiteshvara, this one created somewhere between 900 and 1200. I am enthralled by the marble drapery of this larger than life size statue, regrettably headless. Drapery details here:
