Anthony Trollope (1815-1882) will save me from the Holidays this year. At the library where I work there is a set of his six Palliser novels published in the 1920s. Each title was printed in three volumes. That makes EIGHTEEN little sturdy red hardcover books to read.
Can You Forgive Her? is the first title in the sequence. So many years have passed since I read this novel for the first time that I have forgotten the plot completely. Which of her two suitors will heroine Alice Vavasor marry? Will it be John or will it be George? John is the "reliable" [i.e. dull] man she hesitantly has agreed to marry. George is the "wild" [i.e. sexy] man she formerly intended to marry, and still secretly loves.
