Next Dress
Tuesday evening I delivered the red Christmas frock to Mabel Watson Payne and her parents at their San Francisco apartment. While visiting we speculated about what might be the requirements and specifications for the next baby dress commission I receive.
Everyone agreed it ought to be a Roman-themed dress to carry with us on our Italian trip in the early spring. My daughter did some picture research and suggested seizing inspiration from the lawn blouse Audrey Hepburn wears with a gathered skirt and espadrilles throughout most of Roman Holiday.
There are pin tucks along the shoulder seams, an appealing feature. We like the spread collar also, but are picturing the garment made up for Mabel Watson Payne as a little sleeveless dress, possibly in bright yellow. Would she tolerate a tiny striped silk scarf knotted at the throat? Perhaps not.
