This was our kitchen in Rome, where Mabel Watson Payne confidently ate quantities of solid food sitting up in her special eating chair carried by her parents in their suitcase all the way from San Francisco. Often I was kind of an impediment, distracting this ever-curious baby with my overzealous camera from the vital business of breakfast. My daughter was patient about this (or too sleepy to complain) but I did try to stop after a couple of minutes and let them get on with the meal.
