By accident I greatly underexposed the ocean-photo above. The foggy mid-day light at Point Reyes on Saturday looked (in the literal sense) more like the near-duplicate view below. But the greenish-silver distortions of the water and the coppery intensification of the wet sand in the top version transformed the scene into Vampire-Land at Twilight. Sort of like the inverse of that happy accident the other day when Mabel Watson Payne's windows were suddenly set glowing by the apparent approach of angel-ambassadors. One does well always to remember Cees Nooteboom's remark that "transmigration of the soul does not happen after but during a life"
