It became clear to me on Friday afternoon that Mabel Watson Payne was having just as much (or more) fun at the Huntington Park playground playing in the sand without sand toys (we didn't bring any with us that day) as she had the week before at the Chinatown playground when we brought many sand toys with us. The weather wasn't particularly encouraging, but Mabel brimmed over anyway with energy and happiness, self-generated.
