American photographer Frances Benjamin Johnston (1864-1952) commissioned the creation of more than a thousand hand-tinted glass-plate lantern-slides based on her own black-and-white photographic prints. For many years she gave illustrated garden lectures. These Italian views date from the summer of 1925.
