Yesterday's post featured Zhiang Jian-Jin's silicone-rubber take-offs on traditional Chinese scholar rocks at the San Francisco Asian Art Museum. Looking back at that, I was reminded that one of the sculptures installed outside the recently rebuilt De Young Museum in Golden Gate Park is a chrome-plated scholar rock by Zhan Wang, as seen above. In fact, a quick internet search reveals that it would be hard to find a city anywhere in the world that does NOT boast one of Zhan Wang's shiny silver scholar rocks among its cultural amenities.
