On Saturday I returned to help babysit while Mabel Watson Payne's parents went to the annual gigantic book sale sponsored out at Fort Mason by Friends o f the San Francisco Public Library. They held themselves well in check, more aware than ever of space constraints as Mabel grows. This year's new austerity-vow meant that only about twenty new/used books came home at the end of the day to join the family.
During Mabel's nap I returned to the often-repeated activity of photographing existing bookshelves. Though familiar, the details viewed through the camera's miniature eye are never monotonous. They look fresh, always.
