Paulus Bril


The Flemish painter Paulus Bril (1554-1626) was another of those northern Europeans who had the good fortune and good sense to move to Rome at an early age. Bril's pictures are populated by tiny hunters or shepherds, sometimes by tiny mythological figures or Christians  all doing their pictorial part to define variations of scale and to convey receding distances.
