Jacques Callot (1592-1635) was born and died in France but spent much of his career working in Italy during the waning days of Mannerism. Callot's prints were popular as models of fashionable figure composition and graceful fantasy during the first half of the 17th century. In particular, Callot provided figure-models for the younger artist Johann Heinrich Schönfeld (1609-1684) whose engravings and paintings occupied this space yesterday and the day before.
