Karel Dujardin – Painter and etcher, mainly of Italianate landscapes with prominent figures and animals.  Born in Amsterdam and baptised in the Lutherse Kerk there in 1626.  Son of little-known painter Guilliam du Gardijn.  Pupil of Nicolaes Berchem.  Dujardin studied in Italy in the early 1650s, also in Lyon and Paris.  Mature career largely spent in Amsterdam and The Hague.  Returned to Italy in 1675.  Died in Venice, 1678.
