This group of Renaissance drawings (many with colored washes) is from a second sketch-book of Amico Aspertini (1474/75-1552) preserved at the British Museum after its acquisition in the mid-19th century. Aspertini drew on paper in this album, rather than vellum. Today's curators (in their long commentaries on each image) sound quietly vexed that their predecessors at the museum chose to remove the original structure of this book and rebind the pages, confusing their order in the process and trimming away significant slices from each one along the inside borders.
