English painter Glenn Brown opens a new show this month at Galerie Max Hetzler in Berlin. What appear to be big three-dimensional Expressionistic smears of paint in his work are actually perfectly flat to the picture surface – he paints the paint itself as a trompe l'oeil illusion.
