Chroma

I saw the opening night of Wayne McGregor's Chroma at San Francisco Ballet. Originally created for London's Royal Ballet in 2006, this piece won many European prizes. Here, there was both hate and love. Some said "awful awful awful" and some said "great great great."

McGregor commissioned the set from minimalist architect John Pawson – who had never designed a set before. All color is from light.

Ten dancers, each with equal prominence.

Dana Genshaft and Anthony Spaulding (below, in rehearsal and in performance) stood out for assurance and joy.
