The photo above by Bill Batten is presently in use to promote a new book from Taschen called Interiors Now 3. "The new-old living room in a London townhouse designed by Faye Toogood for a young couple."
The colors, the light, the composition – all three score high at first glance. Plus, the now-unusual presence of functioning reading lamps at either end of the sofa. The room's lowpoint, on the other hand, is surely that big sharp-cornered translucent table, a low flat surface of green glare in the middle of the room.
It is possible as well that this interplay of golds and greens, russets and silvers represents the high point of the book. Other sample images from the publisher's site seem less convincing, with the possible exception of the decorating scheme below, relying entirely on black paint applied to an all-white room using a squeeze bottle.
