"Giuseppe Angeli was born in 1712 in Venice and entered the shop of Giovanni Battista Piazzetta at an undetermined date, probably before he was twenty years old.  By 1741 he was officially registered as an independent painter, but instead of establishing his own studio he became director of Piazzetta's workshop.  Angeli soon succeeded, however, in cultivating his own circle of influential patrons in Venice and its mainland territories.  He is not known to have left the city for study or work."

"Sebastiano Bombelli (1635-1719) was born in Udine.  Before 1660, he had moved to Venice where he occupied himself copying the works of Veronese.  Between 1663 and 1665 he was in Bologna, studying with the elderly Guercino.  He then returned to Venice and stayed there for the rest of his life, apart from the occasional trip in Italy and abroad."
