The Département des Arts Graphiques at the Louvre houses more than 200 drawings associated with the career of Genoese painter Luca Cambiaso (1527-1585).  Most were attributed to the hand of the artist himself when they entered the museum during the 17th and 18th centuries.  Starting in the mid-20th century successive waves of curators and specialist scholars have chipped away at this body of work, re-ascribing the majority to associates, assistants, or subsequent copyists.  The ones shown here are among the few still most confidently assigned to Cambiaso himself, both because of stylistic idiosyncrasies and because of parallels with documented paintings.
