Ludovico Gimignani was the son and pupil of Giacinto Gimignani.  Ludovico's mother was Cecilia Turchi, daughter of painter Alessandro Turchi.  In addition to family connections, Ludovico benefited from the advocacy of his father's prominent and long-lived friend Gianlorenzo Bernini.  These affiliations and his own facility ensured ample commissions for Ludovico in Rome's booming industry of late-Baroque church decoration.  He further gained the patronage both in Rome and in Tuscany of the powerful Rospigliosi family.
