"Antoine Coypel (1661-1722) was trained in Rome under his father, Noël (1628-1707), and in artistic centers such as Parma and Bologna.  . . .  Coypel's manner betrays a free and condensed use of Italian influences.  . . .  The French stamp on these theatrical compositions can perhaps best be detected in the meticulous arrangement of forms."
