Lot's Wife


Above is a detail of a sculpture of Lot's Wife by Kiki Smith. I came across it more or less by chance, but then started wondering about other people's representations of that nameless lady from the Old Testament who could not resist looking back at the home she was fleeing and so was punished (by the tyrant in the sky who prevailed in those days) with instant and perpetual transformation into a pillar of salt.



What might be called the Disney/Evangelical style (epitomized above) outguns all rivals in internet popularity. Some of the alternative visions appear below.
